Mpox Vaccine
Available to anyone who wants protection from mpox infection.Vaccine Eligibility
In alignment with CDPH Mpox Guidance, the Alameda County Public Health Department recommends anyone who may be at risk for—or in need of additional protection from—mpox to get the two-dose mpox vaccine series (JYNNEOS).
Mpox vaccine providers should offer JYNNEOS to any person who believes they may be at risk for infection; any person who requests vaccination should receive it. Providers shall not require anyone to share reasons for wanting vaccination.
For answers to common questions, see Facts about the Mpox Vaccine (FAQ).
Vaccine Availability
JYNNEOS, the vaccine to prevent mpox, is now commercially available. As such, most health insurance plans should cover the mpox vaccine for eligible adults. This includes Medi-Cal, Medicare, Veterans Affairs Health Care, Tricare, and private/commercial insurance.
NOTE: It is possible that the vaccine is not yet covered by your health plan. Most private health insurance will be required to cover mpox vaccination beginning January 1, 2025. If you have health insurance, contact your health plan to find out if they cover the mpox vaccine (JYNNEOS). This is usually done by calling the member services phone number on the back of your insurance card.
Availability of JYNNEOS may be limited due to supply.

Vaccine Administration
JYNNEOS vaccine is licensed as a series of two doses administered 28 days (4 weeks) apart. The standard regimen involves a subcutaneous route of administration with an injection volume of 0.5mL. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has provided authorization for the vaccine to be given intradermally; this allows for more doses of vaccine per vial (4-5 compared to 1).
